I am bothered. I've seen students pinching assignments from years ago and doing a makeover and handing it in. They copy wholesale from the internet. It's probably the culture and thinking..."it's out there in cyberspace, so why bother working on the problem".

Eventually, we will have people in high places who cannot think but depend on thinkers from workhorse nations to do their thinking for them. A frightening thought just occured: Isn't that what is happening now? Farming out problem solving to not so rich countries, so that we don't have to think.

Orwellian theory? 1984 ?

I don't think anyone likes it. People cheat at school, people even get tutors just to give them answers. At our school kids go to our RR classroom to get "HELP" and usually end up with better grades than the top 5 in our class. So people will take what you give them its bound to happen, but you got to take the moral high ground then and don't let yourself be apart of it. I know sometimes I give up on homework. Find someone who has already done it. But in this case if they ask ignore. The only thing really you can do is just not let yourself become a part of it. Ignore those questions and help those who really need help on one or two questions.

It bothers me that people still answer their questions with sarcasm to grab the two points. If you don't like the category, move to a different one, I just get annoyed with all the 'do your own homework' replies.
And it bothers me that some teachers are evidently not explaining things the way they should, or not making themselves accessible for students to ask for help. Sometimes all they need is some guidance, someone to explain things, they don't all ask for fifteen page essays or a complete list of answers to a test.

yes i am i think students will never learn when they just get the answers. Now asking for one question so see how to work out a problem i find that ok, thats how i learned by examples. but ive seen people put 5 or 6 questions on here GUYS DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK if you have questions talk to your teacher or parent

It really bothers me, too. They should do their own homework. Even if they are asking for the answer, they should not just copy down the answers, like all of the irrogant people do. I think that Yahoo! should not allow that. You have a great point in addressing this topic. Hopefully those irrogant people will read this and stop cheating on their homework!!!!!!☺

Cheating is not new, it's just gone high tech. I'm not interested in writing anyone else's papers or letting them crib off mine.

And, ultimately, they end up cheating themselves. Just think of them 20 years from now - their teenage comes to them and asks "Can you help me with my homework?" So they lose in more ways than one.

Even when you think you won't use something, it'll find you. I could care less about my Geometry lessons but I see around me everyday.

LOL I've been on this site long enough to know that lots of people over 18 ask "Am I hot?" or "Do you think I'm pregnant?" or "Am I ovulating?" or "I'm 7 inches, is that enough?" *sigh* And on the flip side, I've actually read a few very insightful questions from the younger generation. Intelligence isn't related to age!

I get a little frustrated by it too. Being a teacher myself my heart is in the right place to help the kids who can't get the help at home. I have several students whose parents have called me saying that they aren't able to help their students anymore. But there is a line that needs to be drawn. Helping understand is one thing, giving them sources to find the answers themselves is one thing. Giving them the answer, especially with no explainations, or showing them how to get answer keys....that is another.

I agree. Like I have some kind of God complex and have nothing better to do than get online and wait for people to ask questions just so I can make myself feel better by giving them some answer to a problem I've never heard of.....oh...wait.....

I also hate it but we can't stop technology. Same argument in the past when no programmable calculators were allowed during exams. In my time they stop that practice.

Best luck to them during exams. Best way to learn is to practice and try things out that means do the assignments yourself.

You are right, it is their problem.
