Jefferson is believed to have fathered children by Sally Hemings, one of his slaves. Incidentially, I don't believe it was "an affair" because Jefferson was a widower at the time of the alleged sexual intercourse. Also, I think calling it "an affair" implies that, if it happened at all, that it was a consensual relationship. In the context of slavery, I am not sure it makes sense to talk of consensual sexual relations between a master and a slave
