Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he has an electrical problem.
Somewhere he has a direct short.. that is what fried the negative cable.
It sounds like he has a loose hot wire that shorts out when he turns right. Whatever it is, it is serious if it can fry a battery post. He is a half step away from a fire under the hood.
Best (and safest) thing is to take it to a mechanic NOW and pay the $70 or so to have them find the short . Once found its an easy fix. Not found and it will toast the car and maybe injure someone.
AS for the brakelights and headlights.. etc.. check the fuseable link (a wire designed to melt in the even of a short) . It should be near or connected to the starter between the battery and the starter.
good luck
.

be sure that the battery is not moving around under the hood while the car is in motion! say if the battery made contact to something metal, it could have caused an fuse/relay to blow.
lock down the battery, and check and test all fusees both in the car, and under the hood.
keep in mind, those cars also have many electrical problems. good luck

i own a repair shop, and i tell you what i think might have happened to it the battery may have shorted it out when he shut the hood on it,if it wasn't fastened down real good they will move around ,and the positive post will go to ground, that will cause exactly what happened to it,and also it may have actually burnt out the alternator on it also, but i have seen this happen a dozen times before, after being in this for 36 yrs,you see some strange things,id say that's what has happened to it,it may cost a few bucks to get it going good again, good luck,i hope this help,s.

Hello,
It actully sounds like he may have hooked up the battery backwards the first time he hokked it up. I would start by makeing sure the battery connection are very clean and tight and correct and double check all your fuses. Another poss. is the voltage regulator may have gone out sending to much voltage and burning fuses and you battery cable.

Yep, electrical problem....look for loose or broken ground wires.... I would start around the battery area since that is the last place your friend was messing around in.

have him to check the battery.it sounds like the battery is shorted out,or he could have the battery cables hooked up wrong.if so,thats a good way to burn up the alternator!take the battery to auto zone and they will check it out for free.
