Everything was fine last night when I went to bed and woke up with no water. However I did notice yesterday that the water was dirty but only in the toilets. It has been up to -33 with windchill factor. Do you think the pump went out of the well froze? The neighbors are fine.

Maybe the line between the well pump and the house froze? Our well is over fifty feet from the house and alongside the water line we have an electric heating cable that has to be turned on all winter.
Perhaps consult a person who can check this out soon, before something bursts!
- good luck with this

Is your pump above ground? My well here, the pump is down a 4 ft deep and wide hole in a concrete well casing beside the actual well casing that go down some 40 ft.
I have a cement slab over top of that. When it gets really cold I have a light bulb burning in that compartment just to up the temp a bit.

If your situation is more exposed than that, then expect it to freeze hopefully just the supply lines have got iced up. If the pump freezes up and cracks then there is a fair coin to pay. Somehow get some heat in there even if it is just a bulb or 2.
Nowadays I don't use my pump in the winter - got city water...so the lines and pump are dry. You may have a drain plug at the bottom of the pump so you can drain out the water in the pump as it melts.

Wind chill factor has nothing to do with water lines freezing, so forget that. What is the actual temperature there? The well pump cannot freeze if the well is deep enough, however the waterline from the pump to the house could. Well pumps in this area are usually 200' down. I am suspicious of the dirty water. You may need to call in a service company to have things checked out.

Cover the well with a tarp and go buy a heat lamp and place it next to the well pump, this should thaw it out and allow you to get through this cold spell and have running water again. It's more than likely frozen.

They dirty water makes me think you have worse problems than a frozen line.More like a big hole in your drop pipe. go out by the well an listen for the sound of spraying water. Scince you have no water I would guess Its a rather large hole.

cover well head w/ cardboard box, & run an extension cord w/ 100 watt lightbulb, let sit for several hours, will thaw if frozen!
