Having has some experience with this with a family member - it really depends on what kind of learning issue the person has.
Shouldn't the person teaching have some training in this area before training.
Behavior issues are completely different than learning disabilitites.
In either case, learnign is achieved through activation of all the senses. Hearing, seeing and doing. I use to train staff on the Hear, See, Do method of training. Which means... Tell the person something new, show and example of it and then have the perosn do some kind of hands on exercise that reinforces the principle. By conecting all of the senses the person's rentention and understanding are likely to be greater.

Hi i have been involved in the care sector for ten years i love my work and love helping children and young people come to terms with issues in life.
Praise and a loving environment
Sessions listening to music as a group (quiet time)
Role play and performing arts, get them involved a much as you can.
Colour carded games etc.. hope this is of use I'm sure it will be.

Simple memory games like articles on a tray. look then remove a few, and see who knows what's gone.
Most board games and even jigsaws.
The best are the games you all join in together.

communication is the key to everything , find out their preferred methods of communication ... verbal , non-verbal.... and take it from there ...
