Approximately 3 miles as the crow flies.

I looked at Google Maps and the distance from UCI to the beach I went to when I went there looks like it takes approximately 5 miles on the road. Go down Jamboree, hang a left on PCH, right on Marguerite. Park somewhere when you hit the end and then walk down to the beach.

It is very close- Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar are the closest beaches.

I just did a search for directions on expedia, and it says from Campus and West Peltason to the Newport pier is 8.9 miles. When driving it, it seems less far away than that. It takes probably 20 minutes to get to the beach, which is actually very close.
