Silly question, but it confused me.

If mothballs gradually disappear at room temperature, this would be a chemical change correct? Since we would be unable to get them back to their normal state. Same with if baking soda dissolves in vinegar and producing bubbles, right?

Ok the mothballs "evaporating" is a physical change as it is changing in state only, from solid to gas (sublimation), and not into a different chemical...

baking soda and vinegar combined together is a chemical change... you are creating a new substance. the bubbles are Hydrogen being given off as a gas, and the rest becomes salt water of some sort....(never drink it!)

A physical change does not change WHAT it is, maybe just waht it looks like... a chemical change actually changes what the substance is...

Ice to water to steam, physical (melting to evaporation)
magnetizing a nail, physical
burning paper, chemical
dry ice "steaming", physical (sublimation)
adding salt to water, physical
adding sodium to chlorine, chemical

Hope this helps...

actual alterations happen even as products or elements undergo a change that does no longer change their chemical nature, contrasting with the theory of chemical change. A actual change is any change in count no longer concerning a change interior the substance's chemical houses. count undergoes chemical change even as the composition of the elements alterations: one or extra elements combine or cut as a lot as form new elements. A actual change includes a change in actual houses. actual houses might want to be pronounced without replacing the composition of count. Examples of actual houses comprise: texture, structure, length, color, quantity, mass, weight, flavor, scent, and density. An celebration of a actual change takes position even as making a baseball bat. a piece of timber is heavily crafted right into a structure which will enable a batter to ideal prepare rigidity on the ball. even although the timber has replaced structure and for this reason actual houses, the chemical nature of the timber has no longer been altered. The bat and the unique piece of timber are nevertheless an similar chemical substance. alterations are frequently not person-friendly to categorize strictly as actual or as chemical. Dissolving salt in water includes the breaking of chemical bonds, yet is frequently defined as a actual change. some instructors carry that a chemical change is a rearrangement of atoms, yet many actual alterations also contain the rearrangement of atoms. Many chemical alterations are irreversible, and many actual alterations are reversible, yet reversibility isn't a particular criterion for type. no matter if chemical alterations are frequently known through an illustration together with scent, color change, production of a precipitate, or production of a gas, each and every the variety of signals can outcome from actual change.

That is defiantly correct as a Physical is like salt in water you evaporate the water and you get salt back. If you have wood burning it's chemical because you can no longer turn it into it's original form.
