Hi there:

Note: You must be the administrator on the computer you are trying to get back your task manager {Ctrl-Alt-Del).

You can try two options ...access the task manager by right clicking on the task bar, if not working ...

Go to this site and download the registry file as follows:

reset
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/TaskManager_Reset.reg
enable
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/taskmgrenable.reg
disable
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/taskmanagerdisable.reg

Double-click on the file and choose Yes to insert into your registry. It should now work.

Also check if you have recently downloaded/installed new programs, or strange behaviours .. prob a virus or malware.

NOTE: You need to have admin approval before doing this, unless you're the admin!!

Hopes this helps!

Don't pound on the keys, just press and hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys, then press Del - so all 3 keys are pressed simultaneously. Sometimes you have to press many times before it catches. If it fails, and it will occasionally, press the 'reset" button if you have one. If not, shutdown or if necessary power off.

My Pentium III has a reset button - my new PC hasn't. The reset button used to come in handy. I don't know why it has been discontinued.
