I have two DS units and tried to communicate with one of them off in order to answer this question. The answer is definitely NO. Even when you turn the second one on and enter Pictochat it won't scroll back any further than the point when you turn the second one on.

no, Im afraid not, But I have a original Nintendo ds and I know this really fun thing u CAN do with picto chat! ok, me and my friends all go on picto chat and then we choose 1 person 2 be the 1 to come and find the rest of us! its like hide and seek, but u can give hints as 2 where u r hiding 2 the person looking for u, and the person will know if they are hot or cold because it only worked if the ds' r 30 feet away, so when u r getting close, your ds will connect 2 the other ds. so I hope that u have fun with this fun game idea that I have provided 4 u!

no, you can not. you can only chat with them on the pictochat if their DS is on.

nope because they are not literally on picto chat...to recieve messages you need to be on picto chat
