I smoked "full time" for over 5 years. I was able to cut back almost completely, but I just can't seem to give up cigarettes while drinking with friends! Cigarettes disgust me any other time, but after a drink or two, I can't say no! Any advice?

What I did was this: First, for about a month and a half, I didn't go out with smoker friends. I explained it to them so their feelings wouldn't be hurt. Second, for about another month, I went out with them, but I didn't drink. This was the trick. I found that if I was not drinking, I could hang out with them and smell their cigarette smoke and still have the will power to say no thanks. But the moment I had a drink, I lost all will power and started smoking with them. So I had to not drink. I drank sodas while they drank the good stuff. After it had been about 3 months total, I started drinking again and not smoking.

Then I relapsed and started all over 6 months later.

Then I relapsed again, and started all over 6 months after that.

The third time, I did it AGAIN and was able to quit for good. Altogether, quitting took me about 2 years off and on. I haven't smoked now for several years and I feel much better.

Good luck. It takes a lot of will power, discipline and determination, but it is one of the best things you'll ever do. You can do it!

Quit hanging around the people that make u smoke socially for a
few weeks or month, maybe it'll deter you comming back to the
smell. In Canada we can't smoke in Bars, Restaurants, Hair Salon, nowhere in public, it's the Law!

Where are you?

Summer

tell your friends not to give them to you, and don't buy them for yourself. if they're not available, you can't have them.
