it is NOT gravity, that only makes a river flow DOWN HILL! its like when you have a grove on a comepletly flat surface, you put lets say 10 marbels in than you take an 11th marbel and make hit the 10 marbels with it making them start rolling. what is that called?!?!?!?

Your thinking of kinetic energy, but the answer to your question is gravity.

Gravity of course, in the North Hemispher the water flows South and in the Southern Hemisphere the Water Flows North. Gravity is the key.

Water like any other liquid will only flow downhill due to "gravity". It is the same for all liquids or fluidized solids, gravity is the force pulling them downhill.
