I have downloaded advast to my computer & it has an access scanner, virus recovery data base & a virus cleaner tool. Is this enough to protect my computer & keep it clean? If not what should I do?

Should be fine.
However you may want:

SpyBoy - Search & Destroy for Adware and Spyware

Zone Alarm - External Firewall application to prevent hacking

I use avast and i know it works. The Avast team is always on top of their game and this is the best protection you'll get with out paying for it. Plus it updates constantly.

Actually, I would download a firewall. You can get one for free from http://www.zonealarm.com. There is a link under the Home section.
