The Bears have had so many great players.
Bronco Nagurski,Red Grange,Sid Luckman,George Blanda,
Dick Butkus,Mike Ditka,Gale Sayers,Mike Singletary,
WALTER PAYTON,but the GREASTEST Chicago Bear is GEORGE HALAS.Without Halas there would be no NFL.
He was one of the founding fathers of the NFL.He was once a player,coach and owner of the Bears all at the same time.(Owners are not allowed to play anymore.)

I'd have to say either Dick Butkus, or more likely Gayle Sayers. Sayers, before the Bears so overused him that he got injured from being the only offensive target for the defenses to key on, was the greatest runner I have ever seen, though Payton was also truly amazing. I remember Sayers scored six long distance running touchdowns in one game.

walter payton i wasnt even 1 yet when they won the super bowl and just looking at his highlights and his number the boy was bad

I'd give the nod to Payton.
Walter played on some pretty pathetic Bear teams in his prime and still was the best RB of his time. If Gale Sayers was healthy through his entire career it would've been close between the two of them.

I agree with Payton. Mike Singletary and Dick Butkis would give him a run for his money though.
