A wise man is a good man, or so i have been told. But an honest man doe not have to be wise. Being a good man is different from being a honest man. There is a difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is to know something. Wisdom is the proper use of that knowledge. For instance, I know that 1+1=2, but when I take that knowledge by taking one block and adding in to another block, and knowing that now i have two blocks, then I am being wise. I am applying my knowledge But to be wise doesn't mean you are honest. One who is honest and wise is perhaps the greatest man of all, as none of us can be truly honest all of the time. There is an extent to the wisdom anyone can possess and a limit to how honest a person can be. It may be a wise idea to be as wise as you can, but it would be unwise to be truly honest, therefore, a wise man isn't always an honest man. A wise man can be someone who knows i how to steal from your home without getting caught, or to tell half-truths without anyone suspecting a thing. These men would not be honest, even though they might be wise.

Well, you could be stupid but still be honest. But there's wisdom in being honest, so the honest man is always wise. Except when honesty will get you in too much trouble and it's just easier to tell a lie for everyone involved.

But that's mainly in family situations, or when a woman asks, "does this make me look fat?", that sort of thing.

Size doesn't matter. Many women say this to men...but not to other women!

Good quesiton.

I'd like to think yes, because a wise man would not see any point in being dishonest. But I'm biased, after much thought that is my choice.

Can we think of any examples of wise men who were not honest? Rasputin doesn't count. I'm not sure he'd be described as wise.

Yours is the sort of problem that perpetuates itself, if you know what I mean. The more frustrated you get, the more you anticipate the wrong response from guys, and the more suspicious you become. Soon, you might get so freaked out about it that you might encounter a guy that really likes you, and you don't even realize it. I know what you mean about the backhanded compliment, but you can take it either way. It may mean you are plain in appearance or you are not animated and easily excited, sort of calm and steady. But some guys really like this. Incredibly hot, vivacious or flirty women just freak them out too much, and they may want someone who they can talk to and feel relaxed with. I am definitely this way, and the woman I married reflects it. She is pretty, but not given to emotional over-reaction or a lot of talking. Some shallow people might find her dull, but I liked her from the moment I met her. Just like some guys will like you. I would just try to be yourself, and not sweat a particular guy's reaction to you. I guess 20-year-old girls want the gaping, stunned, stuttering, worshiping reaction from guys. But those bozos won't be what you need, or make you feel good about yourself. Who is this dip that told you that, about your being the marrying kind? I think that's really mean. Forget mean guys. Just one person said that, and you are internalizing it way too much. It's not a competition to see how many different guys want to date you. All you really need is one decent guy to make you feel like a million bucks. And if you relax and just be yourself, he will show up. Put yourself in the right places to meet him---like special interest groups, doing something you think is fun, and not so much the frat beer parties. Let guys know that if they don't know how to treat you like someone special and be friends first, then maybe they're not what you are looking for. Don't spend weekend nights alone. If you don't have a date, get together with friends and do something fun. You will be fine. I'll bet you are really cute.

A wise man always speaks the truth, but the truth is rather cunning, sometimes.

promote love & truth in all things.. lying to protect is wise (though definitely not the ideal).
'do not bear false witness' is talking about court proceedings in which you lie to condemn a person.
do watch your words, and put away every appearance of evil.
promoting love.. goodness.. is wise.
how many times have you checked 'i have read the terms and conditions'?
solomon threatened to cut the child in half, though i highly doubt that he would have.
another example: "yes mr nazi, i'm jewish"
there is a time soon when Christians will have to take a stand, and that time will be based on true wisdom & not worldly wisdom... i do not think that their identity is something that would be wrong to lie about - just denying Christ.

Wisdom is the proper application of knowledge. Knowing when to speak the truth and when not to speak the truth can be a matter of life and death. Unless the intent is to deceive. However, to answer your question: it would depend on the situation. Is this a little white lie?

Nope....King Solomon, wisest man to ever live. Look at all the mistakes he made and the dishonest way he used his wisdom.
