ball pythons are good but like everything else it will need a tank larger than 10 gallons. the only other smallish nonpoisonous snakes that don't really tend to bite i've worked with are corn snakes, rat snakes, milk snakes, and gartersnakes if that helps but except for the corn snake the others were not fans for being taken out or held.

I have a ball python, 3 kings, 2 corns, and 3 rat snakes.
The kings are the most docile, but you couldn't put them in a tank with any other snake, as they are snake eaters.
Corns are very sweet and can be put together with others without a huge issue. If you have a 10 gallon tank, a small king or corn would be fine.

Good luck!

I own a carpet python. They are great snakes. First of all the come in great colors. There are Jungle carpets, coastal carpets, and alot of different types. These snakes start off a little nippy(even though mine has not bitten me once) for the first few months. They grow into beautiful docile animals. They are kind of like a ball but skinny and long instead of short and fat. They also have a larger hear. They grow up to 7 feet. They are really sweet snakes.

10 gallons won't hold an adult animal-not even a corn snake. I have corns, kings and a ball python-my corns are by far the most docile and easy going of all my snakes.

I have a snow corn that is turning yellow (go figure) and an albino corn-but I think the common corns are equally beautiful and very easy to keep (no feeding issues, etc).

Red-tailed boa constrictor. I have one and she is the most gorgeous thing. As with anything unfamiliar, find out information on keeping them before you get one as they do require a little difference in keeping. But in general red-tailed boas are very docile snakes if you handle them often (2-3 times a week at least). They also don't usually bite unless they feel threatened as with any animal really but they don't strike for no reason. They take a little while to warm up to you but once you show them that they can trust you they are very rewarding. PS please don't put a heating rock as most snakes tend to burn themselves. A heating pad will do just fine. Good luck and enjoy.

I have a Tangerine Phase Honduran Milksnake. He's about 6 feet long and very easy to look after. A very affectionate snake, he likes to watch people walking past his tank. Enjoys curling up across my shoulders, likes to be handled. No fangs (constrictor). He needs a bigger tank that 10 gal, but there are other types of milksnake that are smaller. They make great pets.

I've heard Hognose snakes can be pretty good pets. They only get about 3ft. long so you dont need to end up with that big of a tank. From what I read about them their conditions seem to be pretty close to ball pythons.

I have two juvenile king snakes. A california King and a Desert King they are both in seperate 10 gallons for now. You could start out with that and then evenually move up to a larger enclosure. Here is a link with pictures of my little guys...
