Germany and France..... they are in top of almost all European sports!!!

The current basketball world champion is Spain,Yugoslavia ( SFR Yugoslavia&FR Yugoslavia) won in 15 FIBA WCs Gold 5 times, Silver 3 times and Bronze 3 times..... so in basketball USA are not the best 100%..... best MMA fighters are Mirko Filipovic Crocop (Croatia), Emilianenko Fedor (Russia) and Nougiera (Brazil)......... Americans don't even know what handball and volleyball are, in winter sports only Bode Miller was good, USA will never be good in football and so on and so on....... it's no way that USA is the strongest country in sport!!!!

Exactly my point, beach volleyball compared to volleyball is like American football compared to rugby............. fake!!!!

I guess that depends on how you personally measure success. I actually don't know. I can only answer for my own country. We have done OK in men and Women's Basketball, are successful in Rugby League and Union, in Cricket, have had some great Tennis players. Are very strong in Cycling and Rowing, Triathlon etc and our Football side is the best it's been, Motor Cycle and V8 racing, Surfing, Swimming, we have had the best, Boxing, yeah, so while we are not the best at everything by any stretch of the imagination, we are a successful sporting nation.
I forgot Beach Volleyball, Hockey, men and women's Olympic and World Champions at various times and Golf with Norman, Allenby, Badley, Appleby etc.
Man U ...let's not start on health care again!!

General- United States
Sport- American footall(pretty much the only country that plays it) Theres a lot of sports that US puts a lot of money in.
I think European countries are dominating the worlds sports scene.
In football, Europeans have been traditionally strong but this WC had 4 European nations in the semifinals. In tennis, the top 20 of both genders is essentially all European.

Romania!Especially in gym.The sportive of the century is Nadia Comaneci the girl,who at 14 years old she was an olimpic champion!

South Africa is good at cricket, swimming, Rugby & i think hockey as well. South africans love soccer but unfortunately our SA team lacks passion, they a bunch of whiners , complain too much, so we end up supporting Brazil. Rugby & cricket is huge in SA.

I think Germany is very succesful in sports. For example they got second and third in two consecutive soccer world championships. they also were able to beat argentinia in last years worldcup. They won the handball world championship this year, in Germany. And they got 8th in last years basketball worldcup. overall i think germany is very succesful in sports.

USA
As for a particular sport, probably football(not the football commonly known as soccer), along with baseball, basketball, skatboarding, golf, swimming, and beach volleyball.
The reasons are, heavy emphasis on sports in high schools and colleges, lots of year-round playable weather in many parts of the USA, and opportunities to make large sums of money from sports.
