As a biochemist, I feel your pain. There are two ways to test on pathways - general understanding and basic rote memory. Some teachers/professors will ask for specific compounds and enzymes listed. Others prefer a general understanding, such as how much ATP is generated in a particular cycle. So it is important for you to know what type of test your instructor will give.

If it's one of those "fill in the blank" type of exams, then simply practice going through the various pathways. Give yourself enough time to commit them to memory.

However, if it is more of a general understanding or a combination of both, be sure to understand the cycle. For example, what are the key steps? What is an irreversible step? Where is ATP used or formed? This way, even if you make a small mistake somewhere, it won't hurt much because you understand the overall pathway.

Good luck!
