There is no purpose...this is the exact reason I'm getting divorced!!! She wants them, but I don't...

On top of that, most parents ruin their lives financially when they have kids...they accumulate huge debt...no one is saving enough for retirement, but they are sure ready to start a college fund...

I raised two great boys left by their blood father. I reared a girl as well All three of them have touched the lives of those people they are friends with and in so being there for them they have altered life on the planet by sharing the love I taught them about. The love of yourself your beliefs and your friends. If all you need is love then why are there so many wars? What if my daughter becomes the first woman president? What if my son touches enough people in his ministry that they all turn around and touch others and so on and so on until even the tali ban become lovers instead of murderers? What if, what if my child did this or that, not why have them at all.

I agree with you... But we don't have kids because life is such a great thing, we have them for our own selfish reasons - like we "want" to have kids (it's "fun"), we're in love with our spouse ("would it be cute to have a little you running around? AWWW"), we're investing in the future (i.e., having someone to take care of us when we're old), we're keeping up with the Joneses (peer pressure - everyone's doing it), we're trying to procreate ("passing on our genes") or we're just not using birth control properly (ignorance). Most of the time, the reason is not to "give" someone else a "beautiful gift of life" - the reasons are practical.

P.S. Yes, if my parents didn't have me, I wouldn't be here... Well, I have not the slightest desire to be here, so it would actually work out alright... But my parents had their own reasons to have kids which didn't have much to do with the kids themselves.

the most basic purpose of having children is simple...reproducing and continuing the human race. individuals add more reasons onto that. but you are not alone (waves hand) in refusing to reproduce. this world is really messed up and there is no guarantee that sew-n-sew's baby will be the next doctor to cure all diseases. if you don't want to do it...don't.

I think people chose Not To have kids for selfish reasons. B/c they don't want to give up their freedom or make sacrifices, physical or financial. They want their lives to continue being about them.

The desire to have kids is natural, considering our bodies were created with the necessary equipment to pro create. Having children is a good thing, it changes you, makes u grow up, makes you responsible and like so many others have said you have the opportunity to mold a decent human.

I had my oldest daughter at 16 I know way to young, but I wouldn't change a thing!!!!!!(and i was on birth control and i did use it properly i just need them in order to get pregnant and didn't know it) she is now 19 and in college. I'm very proud of her. I raised her myself I didn't live off of welfare not saying it was easy because it wasn't. shes kind, sweet, loving, and honest. that's hard to find these days in our younger children. then 3 years after having her i was told i couldn't have any more kids. I was heart broken but i learned that maybe i was only supossed to have one that i couldn't handle more than that. then i had 2 more beautiful girls. so the reason for having children is only a question you can answer and if you don't want them then you should not have any because it will hurt them as well as yourself. i love my kids with all of my heart and would do anything in my power to do anything for them. including giving my own life!!!!!

I wouldn't. But many people are not producing children because they want to bring children into this world.(some do because they want and love children) But many really don't give a care about anyone or any thing, but having fun. Who cares if children are aborted, molested ,beaten to death, abandoned. many men don't even care about the woman; they just want a hole to put their ----- in; let the woman deal with the consequences. like one Christian pastor said." A man will fake love to get sex and a woman will fake sex to get love. The woman always loses.

Maybe the next generation will improve the world! Other than that the reasons ARE selfish. We like having little things to snuggle with!

You have children in hopes of making a better world. Raising them to be wonderful and decent people. It's about giving and living outside of your selfish self.

I totally agree. People want children for their own selfish reasons. To cater to their maternal/[paternal instincts, to show off that they can have kids, to live through their kids, to have someone take care of them when they grow old ( most children have a great fear of this responsibility) and for someone to pass their wealth to (if they are rich). They could give to charity but they don't want to, they rather their wealth goes to their blood kin. One word.........SELFISH.
