Easy.

1. US involvement in the Russian civil war (1917-1921).

Many Americans were involved in supporting the Whites (as opposed to the Reds!) in the battle to "save" Russia from the Soviets. This was an early divide that seemed to have been mended by the alliance of the Second World War, but in reality I believe that Stalin had had it in for the States from the get go (the alliance was convenient in allowing the USSR to escape WWII on the winning side!).

2. Refusing the USSR a seat during discussions concerning post war Italy in 1943.

The Americans, British, and French all sat down in 1943 to decide what to do with Italy. The USSR wanted to join in the talks, but the US (and the rest of the allies) told them to shove off! This would lead to the Soviets acting unilaterally in Eastern Europe to set up a buffer from the "west" that was being created without their input.

3. The creation of an independent West German currency in 1948.

Immediately after the war during the allied occupation of Germany, the French, British, and Americans decided to create a common currency for West Germany, which was viewed by the USSR as an abandonment of the allies' plan to re-unite Germany. This particular move on the part of the Americans (and French and British) would, in part, cause the Berlin Blockade, which is where many historians place the start date of the Cold War. As I like to put it, the facade was gone!

We were the good guys standing for freedom & democracy and the murderous dictator Stalin (by that point responsible for 20 million plus deaths???) and the USSR stood for darkness and oppression.

Thank god the good guys won.

Oh wait, no, The Metallian is right, we just needed to invent another enemy after defeating the Germans & Japanese. The Soviets were actually friendly and passive friends on the other side of the iron curtain. My mistake.

The Military Industrial complex needs to sell weapons and derive massive revenue to satiate its hunger, therefore confrontational policies, painting the world in black and white and America's constant need to have enemies (Communism, Islam, Nazis, etc etc)

Briefly,

End of WWII = 2 world powers US & USSR.

Our system is the diametric opposite of their system, one cannot exist with the other.

You might also say that perhaps Stalin was pi**ed off that we didn't rescue his butt earlier in WWII and he held it against us. Both are true.
