There's this public examination conducted by the government in my country for 12 year olds. And there's this debate on it, whether it should be abolished or continued. I'm saying that it shouldn't be continued, but dang, i have no idea why.. Help? Need as many points as possible! Thanks in advance!

It tests students on Maths, Science, English, and another language. I'm in Malaysia by the way.

I come from a country where kids do have to take this kind of exam, so I know a bit about what you're talking about. If there's this kind of exam at this age, it's usually to place kids in secondary education institutions or for 'ranking' purposes.

Here are the main points why this system should be abolished:
1. The level of stress to pass the exam and get good result/ be better than anyone else/ come first is tremendous. This is not good at all for the development of the child and his mental health.
How would you feel if you were told by people you respect and trust that your whole future depends on one lousy exam?

2. The education provided is often not well-rounded, basically putting emphasis on academic subjects and totally ignoring/stunting the development of/crushing the other talents of children, like dancing, singing, performing, drawing, sports, etc.

3. A nation-wide exam is not necessarily fair with kids with disabilities.

4. The parents get stressed too and this can generate many familial conflicts, which may eventually lead to estrangement and divorce.

5. A single exam only tells the examiner what/how much you remember at a certain point in time and not necessarily what you know.

There are other reasons but I can't think of them right now. I wish you luck!

Well, I don't know. What country are you from and what kind of questions do they ask on this examine? Is it a type of academic achievement test? Need more info before I can express an opinion.
