or are you african??...african american??? but isnt that just another word for black??

Yes. African American is just another for black. Actually it is the correct way to say black. However, some black people/African Americans will take offense if you call them African America. Vice Versa.

Black- you can be african or african american
African- you were born and come directly from africa
African American-your descendants are from Africa but you were born in America.

Let's say both of your parents are from Burundi. If you wish to use an ethnic identifier, you'd be Burundi-American rather than African-American. Just like someone whose parents came from Italy might consider herself to be Italian-American rather than European-American.

we got use of saying black like if it's a race it's not. that's why they made it African American. that's a race. a race of people. we don't call Mexican brown we call them Mexican Americans because that's there race.

What if you are from South Africa and white? Lets just stick with American and drop the divisive names.

If your parents are black, regardless of where they're from, that makes you black too.

well if your parents are from africa but they are white then youre not black, blacks a skin color not a nationality
