I think you ment to say shaq... Cuz the break up was because shaq always wanted the ball. But Shaq didn't realize that Kobe was one of the best players, or at least he didn't want to accept it. I remember once that Kobe had mentioned that if shaq was the leader of this team why did he had to put other players down by blaming others for the loss of a game. And Shaq got offended, and that's where the problem started. But that was no reason for Shaq to take it the way he did, and I don't blame Kobe for having said that, cuz it was true. If you lose a game it's the whole team not an individual. And as a team leader you are to step up for your team the way Kobe does. Regardless wether they lose or not, Kobe always keeps a positive mind towards his team mates and that's why this Laker team have been more efficient this year, cuz Kobe is now the leader, not selfish Shaq.
Kobe is now averaging not just more PPG but also more APG, Shaq never got passed 2 APG. This year he's barely at 2.8 and that's because he hasn't played that many games, as the season progresses, that number will go down and eventually end up some where in between 1.8, like always. Kobe is averaging about 5.5 APG.

Break up of the Lakers? They're a more talented and balanced team then they were when Shaq was around.
On the note of who made who leave, I don't think anyone knows for sure. But I think that Kobe being the GM's favorite and being the franchise player that he was...may have made Shaq a little jealous. But Shaq left because he wanted to, and he's won another Championship without Kobe. Watch out though, the Lakers could be tough soon.

I don't think it was so much Kobe as the GM. He stated to the media that Kobe was the only player that was untouchable. Shaq took this to mean that he was no longer needed... and much as Shaq was know to do.... he whined that he wanted to be traded.
The reason Shaq is no longer with the Lakers is Shaq and Shaq alone.

His constant whining at the postgame confrences about how he doesn't get the ball enough created tension which lead to Shaq getting traded and Phil going on a break and the Lakers being one and done in the playoffs.

The two couldn't / didn't get along and it created problems. Buss chose to go with a younger Kobe. I presume it didn't help when Kobe got busted in Denver and he snitched / lied on Shaq.

Kobe has attitude problems, off the court issues. On the court he has been one of the best players in the NBA for years, but morale can be just as effective as performance when it comes to making or breaking a team.
