Whoa, I've seen several documentaries done by esteemed Scientists stating the same conclusion! They challenged all science areas to conclude theories from ice cores to permafrost layers to air quality testing in Hawaii at the science labs up top the mountains to testing sea currents & previous historical data on different weather patterns, etc.! They included any/& all skeptical data, which was then scientifically analysed against all factual data. The science pointed to the extreme warming causing atmosphere changes to create an ice age. But first we must get through the extreme climate warming stage which will produce bigger storms & higher sea levels. We're not through this global change yet, but things are about to pick up as the majority of well educated scientists agree the changes are happening more rapidly than suspected.
A new theory put forth since 9/ll has a new phenomena occurring in conjuction with global warming/climate change, which is called "Global Dimming". Two scientists discovered the increase of cloud cover over the world which is redirecting the suns light rays away from earth. The technical stuff you'd have to hear for yourself, but it became an issue of interest when 9/ll occurred & all the planes were grounded for that period of time. The earth got hotter at extreme levels during this period, which baffled the scientists,so they did investigations on this phenomena. Their conclusion is serious as it presents problems on top of Climate change/Global warming. There is a documentary out there called "Global Dimming". Check it out & see for yourself the science & possible concern.

Yes, they rotate on cycles of 100,000 years. 10,000 years warm, and 90,000 years cold. We are overdue on our 10,000 year warm period and it will get cold regardless. 10,000 years ago we left our hunter-gatherer society and started agriculture because the climate allowed us to - we are in an unusual time of stable warm climate which has allowed us to be so successful.
One thing we must remember is this ice age will not happen in our lifetimes. The geologic timescale is not a human timescale, so if we continue with global warming, we will warm the earth maybe past the point of human survival, but in the end, this may only last for 1 or 2,000 years....compare that to 90,000 years. Some people say that global warming is good to try and "prevent" the ice age, but nothing we can do will have an effect on the cooling that is going to occur again.
To answer your question, we haven't even seen the half of global warming - it is going to be a big issue in our lifetime. These are thousands of years timescales, so the new ice age won't happen for a long time.

There is considerable evidence that previous ice ages have been preceded by periods of global warming similar to what is beginning now. The time frame for these changes is hundreds of thousands of years, so the present occupants of this planet will not know about it. Unfortunately for us cool-climate people of European origins, the present period of warming is just beginning. Our children and grandchildren will live to see really serious changes in world climate, and much of it will not be fun.

The truth is some where between both. We might just cause the ice age earlier then it should have been. The important part is that mankind needs to take better care of the earth.

I don't know. I think you would get better answers on the science board. What I do know is that the Earth's climate is always in a state of flux. All lifeforms must either adapt or die.

they go hand in hand but the atmospheric Co2 concentrations are the highest ever and likely that translates to warmer climate. I am curious to know how it starts to cool back down. I bet all the Co2 causes alot more plants to grow and they convert it all to oxygen again.

Man is causing the next Ice Age to arrive much to early, so to keep the world alive for our descendant's, we need to start slowing down!!
