LOST, is there a Monster on the island?

just posing the question, is there a monster on the island? I think it's the fear of having to rely on people you dont know, and imagination of fear, each individuals fear.

well, everyone keeps calling the plume of smoke a "smoke monster" because it has killed people (the pilot and now mr. eko).

i think it's interesting, because if the plume of smoke is a monster because it has killed, then what does that say about the people on the island who have committed murder?

who are the real monsters here, hmmm??
