Background info. I'm from Australia, these are all normal, recognised names, so if you're not aware of them, please keep your comments civil. Please also give an explanation if you don't like. Instead of just NOT JOSHUA (for example).
Thanks in advance for your input.

Also, what are some nice ("normal") middle names. Our surname starts with S, so we want to avoid Grace or anything ending in an S sound.

For The Girls:
Gabrielle- I like it! But, I have heard that alot of girls get mistaken for the name Gabriel. How about Gabriella?

Hayley- I personally don't like it. There is nothing to it.....and plus, it's way too popular!

Ashleigh- Again, too popular. But I do like the spelling!!

Alexandra- Beautiful. An older name, I like! So many nicknames!!!!

For Boys Names:

Austin- It never has done anything for me. Kinda blah....

Joshua- It's ok. Nice, sure. Josh for short.....

Ethan- Please no! That name is sooo ugly! Sorry! But the 'E' part is so strained. And it sounds like someone is saying 'EEEEE Thin'

Connor- Only as a middle name

Lachlan- OMG! How cute! Keep this one on the list!

AS FOR MIDDLE NAMES:

Oliver Micheal
Micheal Oliver

Austin Xavier
Austin Bradley

Joshua Tristan

I like all of the girl names so much!! I can`t choose. Boys I like Austin and Ethan best. Connor and Joshua are a little bit too over-used. Plus I really love the name Ethan. I just don`t like the sound of Lanchlan, I don`t know why. Oliver is used a lot too and I prefer names that aren`t too different, but not very popular. Just try to think of how people might shorten the name or nick-name them before you use it.
Gabrielle- Gabby
Alexandra - Alex
Joshua - Josh
**I know an Ashleigh and we always call her "Ash"**

Middle names (I`m bad at this):
Marie
Elizabeth
Evelynn
Maybe a middle name from a family member

Gabrielle Reese, Hayley Dawn, Ashleigh Brooke, Alexandra Nichole.....I like Ashleigh the best because of the spelling & not too many people are using that name anymore.
Austin Dale, Joshua Daniel, Ethan Matthew, Connor Andrew, Oliver Xavier....I like Ethan the best because that is my sons name!

Gabrielle is a great name -- just like Gabby, the nickname for Marian Gaborik, a great hockey player for the Minnesota Wild.

Hayley is nice, as she'll have a comet (Halley actually) pass by in 2062.

Ashleigh is much better for Scrabble than Ashley.

Connor/Austin/Oliver/Joshua/Lachlan will all get picked last for your son's Rugby team. Ethan will make the squad, but probably as waterboy. Maybe start feeding him McDonald's and he could make Second Row or even Loosehead!

I totally love Gabrielle..............maybe Gabrielle
Elizabeth or Gabrielle Dawn or somehing along those lines? I've always heard to have a different amount of syllables.
I like Ashleigh for a girl, too, but fear it may be too common. HAYLEY is FOR SURE way too common, at least in the states.
For a boy, I like Connor or Ethan. (Lachlan sounds like something that would come out of your lungs when you are ill but may be OK in your geographic).............The only thing that comes to mind is that Connor was the name of Lacy whatever her last name was that her husband killed her and her fetus, that was named Connor............
I do like Austin, but feel it is a bit common.
"Normal" middle names, for the U.S. are:
Girls:
Anne
Dawn
Lynn
Marie
Maria
Boys:
David
Ethan
Francis
Michael
Andrew

I hope this helps you

I do not like Hayley, mostly because most girls I've met by that name are total snobs.
I really like Gabrielle and Alexandra
Ashleigh is way too common even if the spelling isn't and your daughter won't thank you for being the 5th Ashley/Ashleigh/Ashlie in her class

Oliver and Lachlan are too old fashioned for me.
I like Austin, Joshua, and Connor.
Ethan is okay but not my favorite.
