Everyone else gave great answers from former USSR (true), Hard to pronounce (true for some), all contain the letter a (true as well). What they forgot to include was the fact that they were all on your homework for tonight.

they're all former Soviet Socialist Republics. IE, they have been compelled to affix the U.S. till the U.S. devolved and the constituent republics regained independence of Russia.

They WERE in the past part of the USSR, they obteined their indipendence when USSR stopped to exist.
