How do I connect two computers in the same house up to the internet at the same time? We have dial up, that is all that is available where I live. Do I need to set up the LAN or do I need a router, or something else? Any help will be appreciated.

I'm sure you'll get many suggestions ( including someone
telling you to upgrade! ) Here is but one,

Put a LAN ( network ) card in both computers, and
connect those cards together with a 'crossover' cable.

Run a proxy server server program on the computer with the
modem in it. This computer will need to be on in order for the
second to access the internet. A link to a free proxy program
is given below. Just follow the instructions..

Good luck!

The chippest and easiest connection is the following:

Use a swich (one of the chippest switches is D-Link). Connect the internet cable (which is now connected to your computer) to any port (the port 1 is recommended) of the switch. Connect the port 2 to your computer and the ports 3, 4, 5 to other computer(s).

Well you have to get these items...

-router(its around $50-$75)
-2 ethernet cables($20 for 2 of em)

Youll have to choose a main computer...

once you get ur router its just a simple task of reading the directions and doing what it says..

you just need another phone cable. come on, why would you need a router if have DIAL-UP?
but if have dial-up, i don't think you can use both your computers' internet at the same time.

No, you should be able to put a cat5 cable from the out line of your system to the modem of the other.
