I don't want this to sound rude, but a friend of mine brought it up the other day that if he were on a stranded island with little food and had to work all day to live he would have lost a lot of weight. I told her I would post it here to find out. So why is this not depicted in the show?

While Hurly did say he had to adjust his belt a couple of times, I think this was his trying to cover the fact that he hadn't lost weight. Hurly thinks he hasn't lost wieght because he has been gorging himself with stolen food but actually he hasn't lost weight because he (along with everyone else) is trapped in a divergent time split created by the Dharma Iniative. Time is not just different from us, the viewers, it is actually different then time period. It is a smaller interval resulting in macro-time. The bioelectromagnetic cycle of process is occuring at a reduced rate; thereby causing Hurly (however guilty he feels about the food theft) to not loose any noticable weight.

Lost time is NOT the same as our time.
They have only been on the island for about 2 months give or take.
And Hurley DID mention that he went down a notch or two on his belt buckle in one episode.

ok, so he doesnt look much different, but what do you expect? he's an actor. its not like he's actually starving

well last season they actually touched on that, they showed that he had hidden all this extra food and was eating it, then he was going to go on a diet with his girlfriend but she died, so I think he's back to eating his food.
