Any game for the 360 doesn't necessarily need a hard drive. You can play them without any memory device, but you're not going to be able to save it. The alternative to the hard drive is a memory card. You can find hard drives on eBay for around $40, which is what I did for my core system. The cheapest memory cards store bought are $40 as well.

let me use a analogy, Do you need a key to open a locked door? No but eventually you will want to. You will want a hard drive to save so you can not re-play the same levels over and over.

well you dont exactly NEED a hard drive...you can play the game without saving...but its a good idea to get one
