we are 2 divorced parents with 1 child. i am interested in knowing if it is possible to have 2 passports issued when the initial application is submited? The concern here is this; the parent now wanting to take the child out of the country, which is fine. but, this same co-parent will come home after the trip and retain the 1 and only original passport, and dependign on the mood they are in, the other parent is held hostage if they too want to take the child on a trip out of the country. So, the question is, this; is it possible to have 2 passports issued at the same time after recievng inital application?the passport agency requires 2 signatures from the parents, which must be notarized before submitting to passport agency in order to obtain the 1 passport for the child. So, it seems only reasonable that if the parents would each like to have one passport, so they dont have to ask and risk being held hostage, by power/control trips,.Can anyone let me know if it is possible to get 2?

sounds like you may not want to sign that application.

Unfortunately, that's not possible. The passport belongs to the kid (although the kid doesn't control it while a minor) not to you guys. And like everyone else, a child only gets one at a time. The potential for fraud is too great.

You can report a passport stolen if the other parent refuses to allow you access to it... either parent can do this. Or you can refuse to sign off on the application without some assurance (either legal or personal) that you will be allowed access to it. Or the two of you can agree to act like rational adults.

nicely, it should not be a "hostage project". If one figure has the passport, and the different desires to make a journey that could require the passport, then the figure could only provide the fellow the passport. to disclaim the passport because they "disapprove" is only immature and unhappy extremely. i do no longer imagine someone could have 2 valid passports, for this reason the dad and mom will only ought to detect the thanks to act in a mature way. also, both dad and mom ought to provide consent for the newborn to be issued a passport. If i idea this can be an situation, i does no longer consent to the passport.
