I'm an Aussie, so I only get to see what she does on TV, but, I have seen her take Young, Disadvantaged, Black Women off the Streets and not only Support them Financially, but also Mentally (to be a Role model), to those who don't have Family support.
I think Oprah wants to Help the People that She sees as Underprivileged, or Unfairly treated, because She herself has lived that life and Now she can help.
Her Compassion and Positive Attitude should be something We all aspire to be like.
P.S: Does the Black community include Africa, I know she has done a Lot over there as well !

she serves as a role model to all black people that aspire to be successful in their lives
she built a school for girls in south africa
raised money for katrina victims
helped build a new communty and housing for katrina victims
has helped capture child molesters
launched oprahs angle network which helps many many people and organisations
donates more of her own money to charity than any other hollywood celebrity
put 100 black men through college on a scholarship
distributed presents to orphans in africa
these are just some of the things that she has done. most things that she does is not in the public eye. i think the biggest thing that she does is give hope to black people that they dont have to live the type of lives that many many expect of them. that they can do whatever they set their mind too, as long as they persist in their dreams and dont give up.

She also just opened up a school in Africa.
