The ER is a membrane bound organelle where the lipids are syntetized(sp?) and it also helps to detoxify de cell. You also have the Rough Endoplasmic reticulum which has rybosomes attached to it and the proteins made there are the ones being secreted by the cell.

E.R. is the system of folded membranes inside the cytoplasm. Rough e.r. has ribosomes on the outside of it and it mostly processes proteins. Smooth e.r. does not have ribosomes on the outside of it, and it usually processes lipids and carbohydrates.

E.R. supplies materials to the Golgi apparatus.
