I am going to be giving a younger girl, around 11-12 yrs, riding lessons, average, hour long riding and horse care lessons. What would you suggest as a price, what price have you paid? We're talking per hour here. :) thanks!

Hi. I board with a professional trainer and my horse lives there year-round. I live in the U.P. of MI, so things are much cheaper up here. Depending on where you live, it can vary. Also, you have to take your experience level into consideration. Can you get this girl to breed shows and on to Congress and world shows? A trainer of this caliber is very expensive. My trainer has taken her students to Congress and we do open shows and AQHA shows. She charges $15-20 per hour, depending on the level of the student. A few years ago, I was with a trainer who charged $70/hour....ridiculous!! If this girl is just a beginner, with no showing aspirations, I would start out at around $15/hour. If she is looking to move up and has a desire for "show" training, you may go a few dollars more. Also take into consideration what her family does. I mean, this sounds bad, but If her dad is a doctor, you can get away with charging her more. If her parents are just normal workers, you may want to scale back your fees. The main thing is, if you are not an experienced show person, with points at breed shows under your belt, you should not charge a lot of money. If you have these things, your time becomes more valuable. Also, I don't know how old you are, but I am a wife and mom of 2 little boys. I am in my late twenties. If you have a family, your time also becomes more valuable. It is nice of you to care about what you are charging. Most people would just go for the pocket book. Good luck and have fun.

Pretty much the going rate for a private lesson (no matter what skill level) in the South East is $40 an hour, which usually runs over at no charge. That's what I pay and that's what I charge. I can remember back to when I was young paying $15, but that was for only half hour group lessons, and times have changed. But for a private lesson, especially if you're making a barn call $40 is pretty decent!

It really depends where you live. You are going to get a lot of different answers because everyone on here is from a different area. Private lessons where I live are $50 and up per hour, but the cost of living is higher here.

Find out what other barns in your area chare and go from there.

Well I'm not quite sure because you're giving riding lessons as well as care lessons. But I pay $32.50 per HALF HOUR lessons so you could probably just double that and maybe add a little more because you're teaching care lessons as well.

The price per hour would be probally about $15 per hour. I charge 12.50! That is pretty reasonable!
