Sounds like you may have a 100GB drive (where all your files are stored) and 504MB of RAM (random access memory). The more RAM you have the faster your machine is (that and the speed of your processor speed in MHz). You can add memory without loosing files but let a professional put it in.

If you go to my computer, and right click, choose properties
The display will tell you your opertating system and Version "Windows XP SP-2"
Your Processor Type and speed " Intel duo core 2.4ghz
and your Ram Speed "RAM 504 mb" (8 mb typically-reserved)
Most laptops have two slots for ram, but your may have come with two sticks @ 256mb. each or one at 512
You may only have one slot, so you might have to trade up to a 1 gig stick (1024mbDDR)
You need to go to your manufactures website and get the specifications for your exact model to find out, or to an authorized dealer.
Upgrading you memory has nothing to do with you files and folders, so no, you will not loose any information.

Here us a site that explains how ram works if you like to read

Here is a site that can identify the amount and type of ram you have in your computer for pricing purposes.

Information is permanently stored on the hard drive, not memory. You can turn off a computer, take out your memory, replace it (Or have a professional do it), and when its turned back on your computer will be exactly the same, except with more memory

100gb seems very unlikely...

of course you can add memory to ur laptop without losing ur information..

if you do have 504 mb of memory i would add about 500-1000 mb of memory to it...

the more u add the more performance you get...
