i have a 4 year old gateway laptop, it has always been fast and good, but all of the sudden one day it takes 5 minutes to get booted up( usually 2 minutes max), the mouse cursor lags and as i type right now the letters are coming a second after i type them. It lags when i open up the start tab.....i downloaded spybot search and destroy and found 15 problems...i fixed them all but it didnt change the lag, can some1 plz shed some light on this....i also used the diskdefragmenter and nothing changed..plz help.

scanning for spyware (use more than one scanner) and viruses is a good start. also try running msconfig. click start, then run and type in msconfig. go to selective startup. it will display all the programs that run upon booting. uncheck the ones you don't want running. this can help a lot, but make sure you're comfortable playing around with the system setting first. if you're not, ask someone for help.

do you have any anti-virus software? avg by grisoft is free, run that and check for viruses, also run it in safe mode

you should check the problem, go to best buy, and geek squad will take care of you
