The toughest educational issue I faced as a white female from a middle-income family who attended public schools was the lack of focus on true education. I was taught to memorize and regurgitate all sorts of useless information, and the school was more concerned with breeding obedience than teaching anyone anything. I felt like I was in a holding pen - a prison - for most of my life. I usually grasped concepts sooner than the other kids, also, and was forced to sit back and listen to things being repeated over and over again. I would recommend less emphasis on discipline. For instance, if someone is obviously a discipline problem, give them only two chances, and kick them out of school. It's not fair to the kids who want to learn that they're surrounded by trouble makers. The "trouble makers" I'm speaking of usually have good reason, though. They're from lower-income families and realize all too well that the hypotenuse of a triangle isn't going to help them feed their family or watch their little siblings. They are being forced against their will to stay in school, and it shouldn't be that way. School should be completely voluntary. This would eliminate most trouble makers, who don't wish to be there, anyway.
