You could have her be a graphic design artist or maybe an aspiring writer/journalist. It kinda depends on the plot of the story and if you are going to have them related at all ya know like she wants to be a cop but she finds out her boyfriend is an ex criminal or she discovers that he is still dealin the drugs or whatever you decide to do.
