I don't want to discuss whether it's "good" or "bad" for teenagers to become pregnant. I'm also not speaking of those women who actually try to become pregnant - I'm talking accidental pregnancies here. I'm amazed that in this age where contraception is actually handed out for free from certain clinics (In the U.S., at least), that I see so many teenagers who are pregnant. What's the deal? Why can't they simply take pills, use protection, etc.? Again, I really don't want to defame the character of teenage moms. My mother was a teenage mom, and she's one of the best people I know. I'm just genuinely curious. Are they simply careless?

I don't think I was clear about my mom - she was a teenage mom with my brother, who is now 31. She was 30 when I was born.

I was a teen mom with not one but two children. I didn't have twins either. I had been using the patch as birth control for nearly 6 months when I became pregnant. I was 17 when I became pregnant, 18 when I gave birth. Six weeks after I gave birth to my daughter, I started taking the Nuva ring. I only bled for 2 weks after giving birth and recieved my period fairly quickly. That was the whole reason I went to get a different type of birth control. After being on the nuva ring for a month, I became pregnant with my youngest. Those are my reasons though. Not every teen mom has the same circumstances. My mom became pregnant with me right before her 18th birthday. She believed that "pulling out," wouldn't get her pregnant. My mom got pregnant due to lack of knowledge. I got pregnant for the same reason. My mom wasn't told the facts of life growing up. My grandmother just didn't think my mom needed to know for some reason. I didn't know that I was too fertile for low-dose hormonal birth control. I don't regret having either of my daughters. They make my husband and I very happy (married their father.) I also know my parents don't regret me (they were married 16 years).

17, pregnant, will be 18 before giving birth...never took birth control...never used a condom with THIS boyfriend...been together for over a year & 1/2...didnt PLAN on having a baby...but we are going to do the best we can as parents...we ARE in love...i never once believed that i couldnt get pregnant...just never thought i would since we had been having unprotected sex for so long...i was going to get on the pill or get a shot...but next thing i knew i was pregnant...im not mad at myself or anything only because i know its my fault & must take my actions as my own...another reason why i may have gotten pregnant is because i was taking some pills the doctors gave me for my skin which on the side of the bottle read: "will LOWER the effectiveness of birth control" which translates to: "its really easy to get pregnant while taking this pill" anyways...i got pregnant around the time i was on those pills...i dont blame it on the pills though...its all me & my boyfriend...we are very sexually active & have been that way with eachother since we got together...we also live together so we spead alot more time together then most teen couples do...which is also a reason we are so active...we WERENT careless...but now we dont care...we are having a baby & going to take damn good care of that baby boy!

Some are and some just dont care. They think it will never happen to them...I was 17 when I got pregnant, I was high all the time and figured it would never happen...I was wrong lol. I wouldnt change it for the world because she turned my life around but that is just how teens are. A lot of them dont use protection because the guy doesnt like it and they convince the girl its "okay" but in reality its not..some get caught up in the moment and forget...and about the pills, a lot of teens are afraid to ask about them so careless? of course, young and naive.

A lot of times teenagers think that babies are so cute and they want one and will do anything to have one (ever watch maury?) they think they can raise the child and do just fine. when half the time they cant. Some can but not all.
also birth control does fail. I got pregnant when i used a condom everytime and there was no sign of it breaking or anything. Ive known girls who never missed their pill and still became pregnant. My friend has a one month old son when she took her pill at the same time everyday and used a condom everytime she had sex so they do fail.

these days lots of parents don't talk to their kids about sex so they go to their friends which isn't much help either. and yes most teens are careless. i don't know why they don't go to the clinics maybe they are embarrassed or scared and again its because they don't have all the info about anything. or they are like me. i was on the pill ( i went to the clinic) and used a condom and i'm pregnant. but i'm 19 i'll be 20 when i deliver.

The people who think it will never happen to them are just plain stupid. They don't use their common sense. That's why I don't think they will be good parents either.
...And I don't know why people thumbed down the whole thing about teen pregnancies being down since 2004 because it's true! Not 2006, they aren't that quick to collect the data you know.

pretty much. alot don't care, or realize what the consequences are,
I know for alot of teenage girls the birth control and really mess up their system, it did for me. thats is when common sense should take over and tell theses teens to just not have sex.

No just stupid. They don't use condoms because "it doesn't feel good". As to why they don't use birth control maybe they think they can't get pregnant.
