I know from personal experience, that when a child is a victim to verbal abuse, that the child may grow up to do the exact same thing. When I was little, my mother was always yelling at me and now that I'm older, I find myself doing the exact same thing. Not to the full extent like her, but I also think that it starts a pattern. My mother was subject to physical and verbal abuse, and that got passed to me. So now when I have kids, it will be up to me to stop it.
It is sad how many kids go through the various types of abuse from their parents.

well depends really... does the child report the abuse? if so then usually DHR gets involved then depending on the severity of the abuse the child may be removed from the home and counseling be required before the child is returned.
now if the child does not report the abuse maybe just tells a family member they may just speak with the parent .
and if nobody intervenes and the parent and child ( depending on age ) cant talk it out then nothing happens to the parent

they lose out on a potentially great relationship with their kid, and hinder their kid from becoming the best & happiest person they could have become.
