Cameras don't deter crime. But they do quite often help solve them. If cameras were a deterrent, then convenience stores would never get robbed.

If you are inveloped in this world, you don't really notice that you are being watched everywhere you go. If you are paranoid, like me, you become aware of all the eyes on you, every day, all the time.
I live in the UK and cameras are everywhere too. You are probably caught on camera 250-300 times a day.
I don't believe the cameras deter crime, nor is that their purpose. Ever read 1984? Big Brother is watching you!

Cameras are just a high tech way to bilk us out of more tax money 'supposedly' to make us safer. What did Ben Franklin say, ... something to the effect, ... 'those who give away libery for safety deserve neither.'

Its the capital, plus even if there are cameras people can always break them, hide from them, or cops are just too busy trying to catch other crooks.
