Commercial Co2 is typically a byproduct of fermentation, but since it's waste, it doesn't help the environment. Under extreme pressure it will become remain liquid. The best way to keep it out of the atmosphere is to not put it there in the first place. If Americans didn't go out of their way to waste energy it would help. We use some obscene percentage of the planet's resources for our numbers.

Under pressure - which liquifies it into a highly condensed state.
The problem is that energy can only be transferred and never created (laws of physics). The change that causes most carbon dioxide cannot be reversed so you would need to harvest the gas and store it another way.
The world did this naturally with trees but the de-forrestation in the Far East, for example - the Borneo rain forest - produced more carbon dioxide in a year than the whole of industrial Europe added together. Hence if we want to tackle the problem seriously we would have to find alternatives to the destruction of rain forrests for a start.

either as chemicals that react to produce the gas or as a tank of the gas under pressure with a suitable regulator. And yes CO2 is regularly taken from the air via air liquefaction. It is also a byproduct of several industries including breweries
