Yes, it's important to have the alternator belt adjusted properly to avoid the problem that you are experiencing. At the same time the pulleys should be checked for alignment and nicks or rough spots that can quickly shred a belt.

On a normal belt as a rule of thumb you should be able to depress the belt 3/8 to 1/2 inch at the mid point between the widest pulleys using moerate to hard pressure with your thumb.

There are many possible reasons. Most cars have a tensioner pulley, so they don't need adjustment, but a few still do. However, bad adjustment usually results in loud noises, not broken belts. There may be a rough edge on one of the pulleys that's wearing out the belt. Or one of the pulleys may not be lined up with the others (set too far back or forwards, or just crooked.) Make sure the alternator, AC compressor, power steering pump, etc. are bolted on snugly. It's also possible your AC pulley is jammed, but this will usually result is a loud screeching sound before it breaks.

Check the pullies, i work fo rmazda and the 6 likes to lock up a/c compressor and alt. pullies and snap the belt, check to see if any of your pullies are really bright and shiny than the rest almost like chrome that means the pulley is locked up and the belt is burning off. If it wasnt adjusted it wont shred it will slip like hell and make noise, and when the shop replaced them they should of been adjusted to fac spec.

I'm not sure but go to a different parts place as the yoyo could be selling you the wrong belt every time. It should not do that. You need to see if you are getting the right kind of belt. Go to the dealership.

I have changed a lot of belts and never had to adjust it.
Are you going to the same guy all the time, He may be using the wrong belt. also you need to have your pulleys checked.
This is defiantly not normal.

sounds like the belt isnt being put on right to begin with - they are probably not lining the ribs up correctly. usually the only thing that needs to be adjusted after a change is to had some lubicant to stop squeaks or to tighten it up after it stretched a little

no. sometimes the the pulley needs alignment or there is a burr or something is rubbing on the belt causing it to shred or something eg bearing in alt or idle pulley is froze causing belt to damage
