2x^2 - 46x + 240 = 0
x^2 - 23x + 120 = 0 <--- Reduce
(x - 15)(x - 8) = 0 <--- FOIL
x - 15 = 0 and/or x - 8 = 0
x = 15 and/or x = 8
Check Solutions:
2*15^2 - 46*15 + 240 = 0
2*225 - 690 + 240 = 0
450 - 450 = 0
0 = 0 TRUE
2*8^2 - 46*8 + 240 = 0
2*64 - 368 + 240 = 0
128 - 128 = 0
0 = 0 TRUE
x = 15 or 8

First, factor out the 2. Which means divide both sides by two. xsquared-23x-120=0. Next, find all of the factors of 120. The list can get kind of long. But eventually you get to 15 and 8. Since the factors of 120 are 15 and 8, and the second term is -23, both 15 and 8 are negative. (x-15)(x-8)=0. Solve for x. x=15 and 8.

240 = 40 x 6
-40 + -6 = -46
2x(squared)-46+240=0
(x-40)+(x-6)=0
x-40=0 x-6=0
x=40 x=6
x=40,6

2x-46x+230=0
hmmmmmmm...2x-46x+230=0
2 squared =4 (duh)
4x-46x+230=0
add the X's together
44x+230=0
-230 -230 subtract 230 from both sides 44x=-230
divide both sides by 44
x=5.227 (27 is repeating)
I'm not exactly sure about this answer because I'm only in 8th grade, but I tried.
