Because it's cruel. It's murder. These animals didn't ask to be born but they are here and they should be taken care of. It's not the animal's fault that there isn't room in the shelter.

We have homeless people to, shall we start killing them off because there isn't enough homes or jobs for them?

That's my opinion anyway. Sorry i haven't got many more answers. I think this reason is good enough.

You should use your own answers. You shouldn't need a long list as long as you know your own mind and what you think is right or not. If you think we should put them to sleep you won't do well on your debate, whatever reasons people here come up with.

The only way you are going to be able to have a valid arguement of not putting animals to sleep is if you suggest that more people need to get involved. The only way that it would be possible to have a world where healthy animals do not get put down is if the government started funding for more shelters, more people started to care and spay and neuter their animals, more people would stop ABANDONING thier animals, and more people would give their money and time towards rescue. IF you don't look at it as a whole, you will not have any argument at all. In a perfect world, no animal who is in perfect health would have to be put down, but this is far from a perfect world and you can't expect the no kill shelters to pick up the slack because people think it is wrong to put an animal down because there is no more room, they need money, they need shelters, and they need people to HELP them. Until everyone works together and starts caring, there will be no way shelters can keep these animals alive unfortunately.

There are a lot of animal rescues that are now placing dogs and cats into foster homes when they can not house any more animals. They list these dogs online, and also have pictures available at the shelter. This frees up more space for animals at the shelter, and also helps healthy animals work on some manners, or any behavioral problems they might have (such as house breaking). And some foster homes also help rehabilitate animals that are sick, like a dog that has heart worm disease, which is very treatable. Some clinics would just euthanize a dog that has heart worm because they don't have the space and time to take care of such a dog. But by placing a dog in a foster home, the foster parents can help the dog get through the disease.

And where i live, there is also a mobile spay and neuter clinic. It is a large bus that has all the accommodations to spay and neuter animals for a low cost, i think it is around $50. This is to help reduce accidental litters, because most of these animals end up in clinics. I think both of these are GREAT ideas to help reduce the amount of healthy adoptable animals that are euthanized. But helping people get their pets spayed and neutered is the key, so we don't have sooo many unwanted animals.

Would you kill a human who just had a common flu or something like that? I mean...why would you wanna put down a completely healthy animal? I know shelters are running out of room but i'm pretty sure there is some kind of animal rescue farm that could take unwanted animals in and find them new homes. And when i say "farm" I mean someone that has alot of land that takes care of abused and abandoned animals and trys to rehabilitate them so that they can find good homes. Animals shouldn't be put down just because they can't find a home. It's not their fault that their irresponsible owners thought they could handle it but couldn't. This just goes to show that you need to think twice before adopting or buying an animal.

We should not put healthy animals to sleep because they play a major role in human life for example they teach us responcobility and are a friend in time of need

the same reason you would not put a healthy person to sleep. I mean we have surplus of humans in this world. We have people living on the streets because they won't get off the tail and get a job. But does that mean we should put them to sleep. It is basically the same reason.

I saw a few homeless people the other day and think that I am going to go am put them to sleep to. We need more people to help find homes for these dogs. A perfectly healthy, nice, calm, and friendly lab deserves to be in a loving home.

because if there was a healthy person and there wasn't any room for them in a city, an apartment, a hospital, what would you do? If the orphanage didn't have room for a healthy baby, would they kill it? :) there you go. cheater.

Animals are living things. Even plants are living things.

They need to be treated with respect.
