Why not go and get tortured, then come back and tell us whether any human being should go through such a degrading and humiliating experience "for legal reasons".

Better yet, why not torture a few solicitors and see if they want the law passed.

What is happening to humanity?

It is a sad comment on the U.S. society that someone would even ask this question, but I understand your concern. To legalize torture is against everything America was founded upon and is a blank check to commit any kind of hideous abuse against human beings, whether or not they're guilty.

Of course not. The only argument that justifies torture is "the ends justifies the means," and that argument automatically validates basically any act by anyone, since ends are always defined by the victor. If you allow torture, you have to also allow (and consider it legally and morally acceptable) to crash airplanes into tall buildings.

It depends on what 'torture' is.

According to Amenesty International and the ACLU, putting a suspected terrorist in a room and blaring loud music to get infomation out of him is torture. To the average person, this is not torture.

It should not generally be legal, however, if it means getting vital information from a terror suspect, and they are not talking, it may be necessary. I wouldn't object to the torturing of one individual to perhaps get information that would save hundreds or even thousands of lives.

No. No torture is justified and it is NOT necessary for U.S. security. And even if it was, if this country is so great, we should be the better man and take the fall, and go down in history as one of the few nations that didn't compromise her principals to buy a little time.

Humans have rights, even if they plot against the people of a country.

I don't believe how many American citizens want to trade their freedom for a little temporary security. To quote Ben Franklin, you deserve NEITHER.

Should absolutely be legal. Laws against never stopped the Japs, Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese, muslims..... from torturing US soldiers.

The funny thing is, it IS ILLEGAL under the Geneva convention which the US agreed to. The administration fudged the rules because we're in a time of war.
