I just heard aobut Gavin Newsom, the mayor of San frasisco going into rehab and admitting and affair. these people are in public office, why don't they get help sooner before their citizens suffer?

"Citizens suffer" for what? Something like 40% of men, and 1/3 of women who are married will have an affair during their marriage. Why should public officials be any different?

they can't get help "sooner" because then they'd lose the public trust and their political office.

I think all political officials thinks they are above the laws of citizens. I think power go to their heads and they feel they can get away with it. The media used to cover for them. Now we hear Truman,Eisenhower and of course Kennedy and others all had affairs while professing to be true family men.

It's just as common in the general populus. The public officials just get all the media coverage.

Because they're scum who think they can get away with it. If he hadn't been found out, he wouldn't have admitted anything .
