A good foundation for an essay could be arguments for or against the psuedo-economic reasoning of Thomas Malthus.

Thomas Malthus's philosphy about economics and population revolved around the idea that he thought that peole would never use contraception and that as human economies began to develop they would have so many people as to overpopulate the workforce driving down wages until people slowed having children.

This is known as his IRON LAW OF WAGES that has been proven to be false. He underestimated the impact of technology.

It is almost hard not to mention Population and Economics in the same sentance without referencing some of the points made by Thomas Malthus

Wiki is alright on their description.
