If A-Rod opts out at the end of 2007, I feel like he has plenty of options...

My prediction would be the Cubs. He and Lou Pinella were tight in Seattle. The Cubs aren't afraid to spend cash. He could be the starting short-stop again. Adding his bat to that lineup would make the Cubs the second best offensive team in the National League.

I think the Angels and White Sox are both possibilities as well. Btoh teams could use him as either a third-baseman or a short-stop and both teams would love to add his bat into their already potent lineups.

The Dodgers are an option, but they have Furcal entrenched at short-stop and I don't feel like A-Rod would want to be a third-baseman if he signs elsewhere.

Another dark-horse candidate would be the Red Sox. Mike Lowell's contract is nearing completion and the team doesn't have a whole lot of options at third-base in the farm system. The Sox were within spitting distance of landing A-Rod prior to 2004 and if they could snag him away from the Yankees and then win a World Series, that would be an incredible slap to the face of the Yankees. Signing A-Rod would also provide the Sox a right-handed bat to back up Big Papi once Manny walks and assuming the team doesn't sign Andruw Jones...which they probably will.

Good question. Props to everyone on the varied answers...

'06 was last year, and he didn't opt out. I know you mean '07, and a lot of teams will go after him. It was originally thought that he would stay, not wanting to give up the last three years of his huge contract, but with the money that Soriano and Carlos Lee got, A-Rod will also get a huge contract if he opts out. I can see him going to the Angels, White Sox, or Cubs. I think the Angels would be the front runner.

He will opt out but not sure who he will sign for. The money he gets will be more than the $72 million he is owed because revenues have doubled since he signed this contract. He would be an idiot not to opt out........more money and he can play ss without some selfish moron standing in his way.....oh ya and no more boos from his home fans.

I think if Arod opts out of his contract he will probably take a pay cut and sign with a team he can play short for and win a championship with like the Cardinals or Phillies

who knows where he'd go...i know if he has the same year as last year (which really wasnt bad), he'll sell for $14 mil a year. sign with boston lol, that would be nuts...seriously though, maybe some crappy team like the pirates or someone will go 4 him just to turn their team around

The leaders would have to be the White Sox, the Dodgers or the Angels. They have the money to get it done, and the type of market that would be good for A-rod.

St. Louis would be perfect for him, but I can't see them shelling out the cash it would take. But just imagine they did....Pujols and A-rod???

That would make Ortiz-Manny look weak, and thats coming from a die hard Red Sox fan.

I believe that he'll stay in the American League and preferably the Angels. It would be a perfect match... we dont have a great 3rd baseman and we have the payroll he's looking for... I think im in love!

well there are a bunch of teams that would go after him nut the question is will he be able to perform up to his name and not go into 30 game hitting slumps like he did last year.
