This is a serious question. I know that no government has ever officially recognized this feat; but there must be some incriminating evidence...

Okay, I know you all think I was kidding about this. But: As someone mentioned below, the U.S. has sent a married couple into space. Also, during those long Souzus (sp?) missions in the 1980s, the Russians sent up co-ed crews - for up to a year at a time.

I always thought that maybe the US sent up the married couple to covertly investigate this phenomenon - can't ne immoral if they were married, right? Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows mroe than what I mention here.

There has been exactly one married couple ever shot into space, but NASA has strict rules against sex in space. I would imagine it hasn't happened, the personality screening for astronauts is expansive.

All I have to work with is my memory but I do recall some speculation on this subject. When the first co-ed team of Soviet Cosmonauts orbited there was talk that part of the mission profile was to impregnate the woman. The information was printed in several publications but nothing was ever said officially. Incidentally, there was no announcement I ever saw about a space baby. So either the speculation was in error or the experiment failed either in space or after she came home.

I don't doubt that the Soviet Union might have tried something like this early in the space program. It is known they lost a Cosmonaut to an oxygen fire early in the program and kept it secret. Nasa investigators say, if we had know of their loss we might not have lost the crew to the ground fire on Apollo 1.

Bottom line, no one is claiming to be the first and I haven't seen any authoritative articles on the subject.

Sorry about the non-answer to you question but if anything official or autoritative had ever been published I feel sure I would have seen it. I have always been very interested in the space program but especially so in it's early days.
