WHAT DO YOU THINK A BLIND PERSON WOULD EXPERIENCE SEEING FOR THE FIRST TIME?

We know that not all blind people were always blind, but those who were born blind, what do you think their reaction would be? It's hard enough for them to understand vision because they can't experience it, so do you think they would be scared? Do you think they would know this new sensation that they were experiencing is something we take for granted called vision? Do you think they would immediately recognize that a person is a person, a chair is a chair, and a car is a car, just by looking at it? Please assume that no one was explaining it to them, they had to figure it out. Thanks for your opinion!

There was a movie about this staring Val Kilmer (I think) anyway he was blind and had not site and suddenly got his sight back in a surgery. He was lost in the sighted world. He walked into glass and walls and was unable to balance and it is my opinion that sight is like any other of the six senses we have. If it is never used then is lacks purpose and strength. Blind people have great hearing, touch and smell to make up the loss of sight. It is still disabling to them until they are acclimated to an area, but having sight all of a sudden is a disability to an unsighted person as much as a sighted person going blind.
Good question.

For recognizing objects just by sight, I think it would take weeks of adjustment to shift from using all your other senses and getting them to coordinate with what you see. To understand depth and everything. honestly I have no idea. I've heard people ask the question, "how do you describe the idea of color to a blind person" and it would be interesting to have someone who used to be blind explain it once their sight was restored. Good question!

Cool question, no easy answer.

I've actually been close friends iwth a blind guy before and talked about these kind of things but i don't remember his view.

He had a very interesting perspective tho. He told me that I was handicaped because I think of the world in 2 dimensions. Being blind, he experienced the world in 3D.
